We proudly present Organic Matters. In this short documentary film we take you on a journey to two different projects in Galicia. Here, our colleague Daniel meets the inspiring teachers Jaime and Ana. In addition to maintaining and expanding their food forest, growing a variety of vegetables, fruit and herbs, they also provide training in Spain and Portugal.
At the end of last year we visited Projecto Dispersor and Calará Agroforesta to make this film. The green oasis of the mature food forest was a huge contrast to the monoculture of eucalyptus trees that dominates the region. With this film we want to show that you can optimally cooperate with nature and stimulate biodiversity with the help of tools. In Organic Matters it becomes clear that agroforestry is the future.
“Agroforestry is a system in which different crops, shrubs and trees are planted in layers on a plot to strengthen each other.”
The core of this agricultural method is that plants, animals and people work with each other instead of against each other. Therefore, no pesticides are used. Worldwide we see agroforestry appearing more and more and you can even apply elements of it in your own garden.
Thanks to our collaboration with the National Institute for Organic Agriculture in Costa Rica, we have a lot of knowledge about the importance of organic matter in the soil. We would like to share this experience with everyone who, like us, wants to contribute to a greener living environment.
The wood chipper that Daniel sent for his visit is introduced a few kilometers further at a starting food forest. Here, two young sisters from Germany and the Spanish Manolo realize a dream project. It’s Thyme is a community that rebuilds the ruins on their land to their original state and creates a communal food forest. To enrich the soil, a lot of organic material is needed and we are going to help with that.
Discover for yourself in our film how such a machine makes work more efficient and learn useful tips about the construction of a food forest. We also explain by means of an advanced animation what exactly happens with the chips in the soil and what benefits it all brings about. In this way, every seed can grow into a strong plant in the big picture of your food forest or vegetable garden.
